Women of the North West Limited (Ireland) is situated at Moygownagh Community Learning Forum in the rural parish of Moygownagh in North Mayo in the West of Ireland, 20km from Ballina town. This issue based self-help community movement covers a large mountainous rural area with a low population density, with only one urban centre. The management board consists of a voluntary management team of 8 women who are drawn from the existing membership of the local parish based women’s groups and social issue based groups.
This vision is underpinned by the principle that women as citizens have the right to participate equally with men in the economic and social structures of their community. The context of this proposed learning partnership for the organisation is to lead local people on a journey and acknowledgement of discovery from the past to the present. The direction of the learning will be the social and personal changes, the personal evolvement and the exploration of the personal and political connection of the individual with their community and the wider community of Europe.
